Meet the Pankhurst Family
For Armidale parents Damien and Leila, the stress of having their 3-year-old daughter diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia was compounded by the knowledge that they would need to travel long distances to Newcastle for treatment. Fortunately, the whole family was able to stay at Ronald McDonald House Newcastle, and be right across the road from where Eleanor was to receive her treatment over the next two years.
The emotional and financial support the family received by staying at Ronald McDonald House helped to lighten their burden, and Damien and Leila even welcomed the birth of their youngest daughter, Charlotte, while calling Newcastle House ‘home’.
After spending a total 213 nights at Ronald McDonald House Newcastle, staff and volunteers were happy to celebrate with the family as Eleanor finished her chemotherapy treatment last week! She is doing very well and will now only need to come back for check-ups. Ronald McDonald House believes it is a gift to be able to assist families just like this every day, with absolutely crucial accommodation and support services.
